A total eclipse of the Moon occurs during the night of Wednesday, February 20/21, 2008. The entire event is visible from South America and most of North America (on Feb. 20) as well as Western Europe, Africa, and western Asia (on Feb. 21). During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon's disk can take on a dramatically colorful appearance from bright orange to blood red to dark brown and (rarely) very dark gray.
An eclipse of the Moon can only take place at Full Moon, and only if the Moon passes through some portion of Earth's shadow. The shadow is actually composed of two cone-shaped parts, one nested inside the other. The outer shadow or penumbra is a zone where Earth blocks some (but not all) of the Sun's rays. In contrast, the inner shadow or umbra is a region where Earth blocks all direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.
If only part of the Moon passes through the umbra, a partial eclipse is seen. However, if the entire Moon passes through the umbral shadow, then a total eclipse of the Moon occurs. For more information on how, what, why, where and when of lunar eclipses, see the special web page lunar eclipses for beginners.

Up Up and Away
Happy belated St. Valentine's Day everyone! I had school all day, but after school I met Adam at work and changed clothes to then head off to dinner at Restaurant Vero in Arlington. Adam had been hyping up my gift for weeks. He has given away crucial hints in the past to let on to what he was giving me, but this time I seriously had NO idea what he got me. I didn't even peek in the bag while it was in my truck all day yesterday! So I finally got to open it up last night....guess what it was?! I am going hang gliding!
Oh yeah! I actually have a husband that listens to me (some of the time anyway) and he remembered me saying that I wanted to try it after I had seen it in San Diego. Now I have to schedule it for some time this summer and I can't wait! Adam is not doing it with me, but he'll be on the ground taking pictures. I'll be sure to share :)

Ice-fest 2008
We had a serious ice storm last night. The highway was a mess on the way home. As soon as I got on 66, there was a large red pickup truck on it's side blocking two lanes. I found out today, that a friend/co-worker was involved. Apparently his truck hit some ice and his SUV went spinning. He said he saw the red truck coming towards him and it slammed into his front left bumper and sent him spinning to the other side on the median. The other guy started spinning and then ended up flipping on its side. There were numerous multiple car accidents all within 100 yards of each other. It normally takes me 25 minutes to get home. Last night it took me an hour and a half. When I first moved here, I was excited about snow and ice. Unfortunately, the city doesn't close down at the first sign of ice like they do in Texas. I love the seasonal changes here, but damn I'm starting to hate winter. I want some sunshine man! This winter aggession will not stand, man!

Go Spurs Go!
The Spurs only play the Wizards once a season. This season, my wonderful husband got us tickets to the game. He got us center court tickets and almost on the floor. These seats were amazing! I almost felt like I was at home. That is, until I realized what DC was lacking. I've begun to lose my fondness of this area, and this game just gave me one more reason to wish I was back in Texas. At a home Spurs game, the crowd is electric! We cheered the whole game, as loud as possible and as long as our voices could handle it. The only time people cheered at this game, is when they were giving out T-shirts or prizes. I know the Wizards are no Spurs, but their fans suck even more! We had a couple behind us that must have been on a first date. The guy would not shut up and talked about himself the whole night. The sad thing is that the girl actually seemed interested in this douchbag. Go have some coffee at Starbucks and let me pay attention to the game! I was happy to see a lot of Spurs fans there. At least some people around here know a good team from the bad. I can't wait to be back in Texas and have the opportunity to see the Spurs play at home again. I did truely enjoy myself at this game and I'm very glad my husband rocks enough to make sure his work gave him the tickets for the Spurs game to make his wife happy. SPURS + Atom = True Love 4Ever

Look at me!
My friend Angela Kleis took this while we were at work. She was trying to kill a roll. We killed it alright. I like it. Had to share.

Nude III
So this was an interesting day for figure drawing. Our model was J.J. He was an older black gentleman with dreds. He came into our room dressed normally, however when he emerged from the bathroom he was not wearing the typical bath robe. He had pulled his dreds into a pony tail and stuck feathers into them. He also attached a hot pink dream catcher (which was not visible when I was drawing him, so its not in any of my pictures). He wrapped himself in a printed sheet and he looked like a roman or an African chief. Apparently he does this often, because he had a lot of fun with his posing. Some of these poses were very awkward; especially when he bent over with his ass crack facing me. Somehow he was able to twist his legs slightly so that we didn't have to stare right at his sphincter! The girl sitting next to me looked at me and we both breathed a sigh of relief! I'm glad we are keeping a steady variety of models though. It keeps us on our toes!

OK Go
Last night we went to see Ok Go at the 9:30 club. There was also a brass band from New Orleans, Bonerama, who opened the show and also played with Ok Go. These guys were amazing. They had 4 trombone players, one tuba, a drummer, guitar and i think a keyboardist. This concert was a benefit for Sweet Home New Orleans - which is a coalition of non-profit organizations that help find affordable housing and provides rental assistance for the city's cultural ambassadors. This concert was also to help raise money for Al "Carnival Time" Johnson, who gave Mardi Gras it's un-official anthem. He lost everything because of Katrina and is still displaced in Houston. It's incredibly sad that anyone, much less musicians that made that city what it was, are still stuck in other states, patiently waiting to come back home. What happened? Is a useless war really more important that helping your own countrymen?

Thoughts on football and the Super Bowl
I love sports. I love to watch and sometimes even play. We have season tickets to the Redskins games and being a Dallas fan, I still love to go and see them play live. This season was incredible. My teams winning record was a great surprise and the Redskins even launched an amazing rally towards the end of their season (even beating Dallas at home - which we went to and froze our asses off!). Unfortunately, neither my husbands team or my team did anything spectacular in their play-off games. What happened? I had to continue watching football, watching the Patriots destroy everyone and secretly hoping each game they would finally lose. If it was an underdog team doing this well, I'd have an appreciation for their record. Unfortunately, it's the Patriots. They remind me of my high school's nemesis, Judson High School. They had all the great players because it was a predominantly military area the school was located in. They were able to scout high school football players - Ridiculous! They were so good and it made the rest of us resent them even more. This is how I feel about the Patriots. I'm tired of them being good. They need to go away and give someone else a chance. They're untouchable! Even with the video taping scandal that was so quickly forgotten, they continue to persevere! Damn them! I was asked by a friend who I wanted to win the Super Bowl. I couldn't answer. On one hand there is the Giants, who came out of nowhere and then beat my team in the playoffs. On the other hand, there is the Patriots, who have had a perfect season and would like to finish it that way. These are my choices? My only consolation is that we have a football pool going and I can focus my attention on the scores at each quarter and cheer on the score board. Of course there is always the multitude of hilarious commercials to entertain me as well. Maybe Tom Petty will have a wardrobe malfunction.
